50 ton deck crane journal machining

Goltens was engaged to carry out the repair of a 50 ton deck crane while the vessel was drydocked in a regional shipyard.

On-site inspection and NDT were performed in way of the crane boom hinge pins and an In-Situ machining solution was recommended to the ship owner. Two days later our specialists were on board with our In-Situ shaft milling equipment to perform the job.

Both crane boom hinge pin journals were machined to 10mm undersize in diameter and new bronze bearings were machined to suit the new undersized dimensions of the pins. After a week, the crane was ready to reinstall the crane boom and load tested.
