Goltens Rotterdam has formed a new subsidiary in January 2011: Goltens Green Technologies by opening an office in Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. The main focus in 2011 for this branch will be ballast water treatment installations. It will be compulsory for all seagoing vessels to treat its ballast water in the coming years. Goltens Green wants to play a leading role in helping ship owners to find their way in the labyrinth of regulations, suppliers and technical obstacles. As we do not produce our own treatment installation we can offer completely independent advice, thus serving our customers open-minded and unprejudiced. Suppliers are partial: they will advice their system as being the best the market has to offer. Choosing the best system is not an easy matter. First of all, each vessel has different requirements for its ballast water system. The speed of ballasting or de-ballasting may be crucial, power supply may be very limited, some vessels will need intrinsically safe equipment etc. We carry out surveys on board in order to establish available space and the possibilities to tie in into the existing piping. We can use either 3D-laser scanning or manual measuring to investigate the existing situation and process this information in 3D-Cad models. In this the new equipment plus its piping can efficiently be fitted in. After that production drawings are produced and the piping is prefabricated so that the actual installation work takes the shortest possible time. Within the Goltens group, consisting of 22 stations in strategically located ports all over the world, we are very experienced in minimizing downtime for vessels.
